Little Germany is Bradford’s historic mercantile quarter, located just off the city centre’s main shopping streets. The area is home to 55 listed buildings packed into a small corner of central Bradford, making it one of the most remarkable heritage destinations in the UK.

The project was headed-up by Impact Hub Yorkshire to celebrate the areas heritage through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Initial conversations with local stakeholders centred around celebrating the areas history and heritage whilst looking to recognise the potential of the areas future.

The identity centres around a bespoke display typeface inspired by the surrounding architecture. Letterforms reference distinctive curves found in the buildings’ stonework, creating a symmetrical, crafted aesthetic that reflects the area’s character while providing a bold and flexible visual anchor.

Alongside the typeface, a colour palette influenced by the area’s historic worsted wool trade balances muted heritage tones with brighter colours that signal renewed energy.

The project culminated in a new website, a photography library by Stevie Campbell, and a set of flexible brand assets designed to help local stakeholders promote and celebrate Little Germany.
